With the Mark Carney government now leading Canada and a new Minister of Environment and Climate expected to be named today, the stage is being set for a revised federal environmental mandate. While the consumer carbon tax has been eliminated, industrial carbon pricing remains in place, along with potential plans for a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. Federal plastics policy remains unchanged, and the federal plastics registry is moving ahead, with reporting on electronics, single-use plastics, and packaging required by this September. RCC is closely monitoring developments and continues to advocate for harmonized, effective policies that eliminate duplication, enable national scale, and deliver practical, measurable environmental outcomes.
