PEI Introduces Legislation to Repeal Beverage Containers Act
May 13, 2025On May 9, 2025, the PEI government introduced Bill 17 to repeal the Beverage Containers Act. This is consistent with the discussions that the PEI Department of Environment has been having with RCC and other stakeholders since early this year. The plan is to quickly pass this legislation before the end of the spring session of the legislature, which will likely wrap up this week. Once the Beverage Containers Act is repealed, the PEI government will begin a stakeholder consultation process on its plan to move beverage container stewardship to an extended producer responsibility (EPR) model. RCC will continue to keep members apprised of the progress of Bill 17 and the resulting stakeholder consultation from the PEI government.
